The documentary film Washington National Cathedral won an EMMY Award Saturday for best Documentary/Cultural at the 52nd annual EMMY Awards ceremony for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences - National Capital/Chesapeake Bay Chapter.
The film tells the story of the Cathedral's 100-year history and the challenges it faces in the next century as America's "house of prayer for all people."
"It is a wonderful tribute to the hard work and commitment made by so many people in the creation of this film," says producer and director Martin Doblmeier. "The Cathedral is a national treasure not just because it is an extraordinary building and unique sacred space, but also because of the important contribution it makes to understanding the role religion plays in the critical issues facing our nation today. In many ways, the Cathedral is religion at its best."
Washington National Cathedral is produced by Journey Films of Alexandria, VA which also produced the critically acclaimed films BONHOEFFER, The Power of Forgiveness and most recently, The Adventists, all now Amazon best-selling documentary films on religion. Dan Juday and Adele Schmidt are producers of Washington National Cathedral. South Carolina ETV is the presenting station to public television.
